I know

I'm a sucky blogger. I can't seem to find the time to update. I'm going to aim for once a week from now on. Like maybe on Sundays. I have to find one day a week where I make myself set aside some time and do it!

I'm not even going to try and update since the last post, but I'll add a slide show of pictures from the pumpkin patch yesterday. We had tons of fun. It's our tradition to go to Dairy Queen after the patch. (Hence the ice cream pictures) If you click on "picnik show" you'll get a larger version of it.

The last week

Yeah I know, everyone keeps telling me. "It's been a week since you updated, you know!" I know! Ok, so update for the week:

Saturday was my birthday. It was a little crazy with Tommy working, but after the kids went to bed Kelly came over and hung out with me. She brought me a homemade cake and some wine. Beth also came over with a mini cake complete with a candle for me! So the three of us hung out for a while and had fun just talking and laughing.

Sunday night we went over to my mom and dad's for my birthday dinner. Pesto shrimp fettucini, salad, and bread. It was delicious!

Monday I went to Mardel, which is a huge, awesome Christian book store in Overland Park. Mom came with me to help with the kids. I'm the nursery supervisor at church, and we're starting a new program for the older 1 and 2 year olds, so I had to go in search of some curriculum.

Monday was also the day when Amelia started asking about getting married. First she wanted to marry Camden, but he told her he was already marrying Sarah from school. Then she asked me if she could marry Daddy, and I told her Daddy was already married to me. Then she wanted to know if she could marry me, and I told her I was already married to Daddy. She got a very concerned face, and in a very sad voice she said, "Well who will marry me then? I wish there was a little boy that would marry me now so I didn't have to wait till I'm a grown up."

Tuesday we were working on the kids' memory verses for Awana. Amelia's story had something in it about David, and asked what David the shepherd might see as he looked around. I think they were going for nature things, but Amelia said, "Golijah!" I think she mixed up a couple stories!

By Thursday I had made Amelia mad enough by not letting her have candy for breakfast that she yelled at me, "I'm never ever talking to you ever again!" And then when Camden got home from school and I wouldn't let him have candy, he started getting angry. I told him to go to his room, and on the way up the stairs he called me a "big fat potato head." It's hard to not laugh for some of this!

Amelia went to dance lessons and did a great job, so we ordered her tap shoes and she's ready to learn!

Paula thankfully kept Camden and Amelia over night on Friday since I still wasn't feeling great (strep throat), so I had a nice quiet night with just Matilda. The antibiotics finally kicked in and Saturday I was much better.

I went to pick the kids up in the afternoon, and when we got home Camden decided he couldn't wait to get inside to use the bathroom so he dropped his pants and underwear and peed all over the front porch. That was interesting, since the guy next door was supposed to be having an open house on Sunday so he was out front getting the yard done, probably hoping that we wouldn't be home from 1 - 3 on Sunday in case my kids decided to do anything crazy during his open house!

Sunday after church Tommy took the kids to his friend's house to watch the Chiefs game, and I took Jack (our black lab) to the dog park in Shawnee Mission with Kelly. It was quite a sight getting four black labs into the back of her Rodeo. We were laughing pretty hard by the time everyone was in! Jack did really well, it was his first time there and it is off leash so I was a little worried he would take off from me, but he stayed with me and did a great job! He was exhausted by the time we got home! Then we took the kids to mom and dad's so Tommy and I could go out to dinner for our anniversary (which is Tuesday, but he has to work). We went to Red Lobster and had endless shrimp! It was nice to have a meal with no kiddos!

So now it's Monday, Camden is at school, Amelia is watching Barbie in Rapunzel, Matilda is playing with Mathew (the little boy I watch once in a while) and I'm updating. Oh, there were no pictures this time because I forgot to put the memory card in my camera! It's back in now, so over the next few days I'll get pictures and post them.

Wonder what kind of shenanigans the kids will get into this week...

A couple things I forgot...

Matilda now tells me when she poops. Exciting, I know. She looks at me and says, "Puh puh!"

She also says, "Gooky" for when she wants a drink.

She's starting to use so many words lately!

She says Jack, for the dog, nana for banana, and of course dada...she is a total daddy's girl!
She waves and says bye bye, baby, and mmmmm! when she's hungry.

Oops, I did it again!

I know. I said I was going to try and do a better job keeping up with it. Anyway...

What we've been up to:
Last Friday night we had a slumber party over at Abby's house. All of us. The kids had tons of fun. We had pizza, the kids did some art projects, somehow we fit 5 kids in a bathtub, and then they went to sleep!

Beth and I baked brownies, watched Jane Austen movies, and drank a glass of wine.

On Sunday we went to Paula's after church. Todd and Mary Ann were here visiting and Tommy, Todd, and Camden went to the Royals game.

On Monday evening, Labor Day, we took a trip to the beach at Smithville Lake with Beth and the kids. Her husband came later and we had a picnic.

Thursday Amelia started dance lessons. She'll take ballet, tap, and tumbling. We searched everywhere and couldn't find her ballet shoes from the other ballet class she took, so we are hoping to find them and not have to buy more since we also need to order tap shoes. Her friend Brennah is in her class with her. They both spent the first half of the class in tears.

Thankfully for the second half they were ok, and started doing the dances with the other kids.

Last but not least, Matilda has some new tricks. If you ask her what a dinosaur says, she growls. I think she's been playing with her brother a little bit. If you ask her what Dora says, she sings, "backpack, backpack!" See the video below.

Camden is enjoying school and doing a pretty good job. We get progress reports every Friday, so when he gets home today we'll see how he did this week. We turned in his first Scholastic Book Club order today. I remember those from when I was in school, I loved ordering new books! I let each of the kids pick out one book this time.

Tommy's schedule is picking up at work. In fact he has to work tomorrow on my birthday! So my friend Kelly is going to come over after the kids go to bed and watch a movie with me. I think I'm going to make some guacamole, yum!

I've been picking up some business making Ta-ta Tarps, too! I just put some pictures of new fabrics on my business page, and will be going to another fabric store maybe later today to take pictures of more fabrics!

Next week everything gets busy again for the year. Bible study on Tuesday and Wednesday, Awana for the kids on Wednesday night, back to the gym (I need to do this bad!), Amelia's dance lessons on Thursdays, and I'm starting a book club with a friend too.

Right now I'm getting ready to go bake my Amish Friendship Bread. Someone at church gave me a starter for it, and this is my first time to make it but I've heard that it's delicious! Today is day 10, baking day. Amelia is very excited to help me bake it, she loves to help in the kitchen! I'll take a picture and let you know how it turns out.

Ok, time to get Matilda down for her nap and bake some bread!

Some recent shenanigans

I just remembered that I was going to put on here some of the things the kids have said recently.

Camden has nursery rhyme day at school on Friday and has to dress up as his favorite nursery rhyme character. He told me he wanted to dress up as a T-Rex, but I told him there weren't any nursery rhymes with a T-Rex in them. His idea?

"How about...Hickory dickory dock, the T-Rex broke the clock. There, now it's a nursery rhyme so can you please buy me a T-Rex costume?"

Amelia told me the other day: "Mommy, I had a vewy mystewious dweam last night!"

Yesterday on the way to school Camden sighed and said, "I just love kindergarten!"

I know there were others but of course as I sit down to type them I can't remember. I need to start keeping a notebook with me so I can write things down right away!

What's been going on?

I know. I'm a horrible blogger. :-p It's been a long time, so I'll try to catch up now and keep up with it this time!

Kristen came to visit before she left for Germany. We spent a lot of time hanging out.

And then we had to say goodbye.

We have spent some time playing outside.

For about the last week we have all been sick! It started with me with the stomach flu. It passed to Matilda, then Tommy, then Camden, and now Amelia. We've all had a different version of it though. I was the sickest, Camden and Matilda only threw up a couple times and then they were fine, and Amelia skipped the stomach part and started running a fever yesterday. She spent most of the day today sleeping...

Thankfully she seems to be doing much better tonight and we are hoping that we can make a trip to Paradise Park tomorrow for some fun while Camden is in school.

I've been busy making nursing covers (Ta-ta Tarps) the last couple days. I have an ad out on Craigs List and I also have a business page for them on Facebook.

Anyway, that's what we've been up to! I promise to try and stay updated more often!

First day of school! First day of school!

I woke up with that going through my head. Like in Finding Nemo, when Nemo is excited for school and his dad doesn't want him to go. I tried talking Camden out of school for the last two days, but he was very serious about going. :-)

We drove up to the school today because it was raining, normally we'll walk. We went in and took a few pictures, Camden in front of his classroom and sitting at his assigned place at his table.

When I went to pick him up he had a big smile and told me he loved Kindergarten and had a fun time. I was pretty relieved. I knew he would like it, but there was still a little part of me that wondered how he would do. He kept his clothespin on the happy face with a star today. (Their chart system where each child has a clothespin with their name on it and it moves to happy, straight face, or sad depending on how they do that day.)

Anyway, here are the pictures...

First Steps

Matilda took her first steps on Sunday. Of course, this was in the midst of her having a fever and being extremely cranky. She hasn't done it since! I knew it would be any day, because she has been standing with no hands on anything for quite a while now. Yesterday she still wasn't feeling well so she didn't want to have anything to do with practicing walking. :-) We'll see if she wants to try again today.

In the meantime, Kristen is here visiting for her last visit before she goes to Germany, so we'll probably be spending most of the next couple weeks with her.

To school

I can't really say "back to school" because this is our first time.
Camden starts kindergarten in just 10 days! I have mixed emotions about it right now. Some days, August 17 can't come fast enough and on other days I get a little teary thinking about Camden being gone all day every day. 9:00-4:00 seems like a long day for a 5 year old to me!

Anyway, so we finally got all of our shopping done today, thanks to the tax free holiday for back to school supplies. He got new school shoes, his backpack, and all the school supplies on his list. All that's left to do is go Thursday night for back to school night to meet his teacher and see his classroom.

It's so crazy how fast these 5 years went by.

A Long Day!

Yesterday Matilda was cranky the entire day and pretty much sat on my lap all day long. I had no idea what was wrong with her and figured she must be getting sick. After dinner I noticed that her right hand was completely clean, and realized she hadn't been using it at all throughout the day.

"Miss Bef" (that's what Camden and Amelia call Beth!) came over and took the older kiddos for a sleepover with Abby so I could take Matilda to the urgent care at Children's Mercy. Boy am I glad too, because we were there for three hours!!

It turned out that Matilda had Nursemaid's Elbow. The doctor was able to pop it right back into place, and now she is a MUCH happier girl. Although I am surprised she didn't sleep in later today since we didn't get home till after 11:00 last night!

But I am glad she's back to her usual happy self and playing and climbing like normal. Apparently this is something we have to keep an eye out for, I guess once it happens once it is more likely to happen again.

A new friend

The man who owns the house next door doesn't live there, but is fixing it up to sell. He just put it on the market today. A little girl who must be his niece or something, Faith, came over to play with the kids. It was the very first time Amelia came in the door and said, "Can my friend come inside to play?" Camden keeps calling her "girl friend". "Hey girl friend let's go play out back!"

So they played out front for a while drawing with chalk:

They've been playing all afternoon, going back and forth between the two houses. Of course Camden does not want to play princesses and mommies with them so he's trying to torture them and make them play dinosaurs with him...

In the meantime, Matilda is busy playing with Amelia's stroller.

I forgot something!
Today I couldn't find my phone. I asked the kids if they had done something with it. Camden said, "It's your business to keep track of your own stuff, mom!"

Wonder where he heard that?

Dentist and Pizza

Camden and Amelia had their dentist appointments today. Camden has been once before, but it was Amelia's first time. She cried a little at home and didn't want to go. But she did a great job there, and on the way home she said, "I shouldnt have cried, but I didn't know." I said, "You didn't know what?" She said, "That going to the dentist would be so fun!" :-) I think the new princess toothbrush and two prizes from the prize drawer helped.

We let Camden go first so that she could see it wouldn't hurt. Miss Kelly did a great job with the kids!

Tonight we made homemade pizza with honey whole wheat crust made from scratch. The kids enjoyed it. Amelia was mad because I made her use the pink plate when she wanted the blue one.

Miscellaneous stuff

It's been a few days...

Saturday morning we went to week 3 of ballet:

Then we went to the Farmer's Market in Liberty and got lots of fresh veggies. When we got home it was time for lunch and Matilda tried her hand at eating some ravioli...

Saturday night we got to go out to eat with some friends. We went to Moonlight Sushi and tried some tasty new things. It was Tommy's first sushi experience. I think he enjoyed it. I KNOW I did! I LOVE sushi!

Sunday was a red letter day! We finally got the outside of our roof fixed. Now we just need to wait for a good rain and make sure that we got all the spots that were leaking. We'll wait to fix the inside until we're sure about that. Aunt Carey came and played while the guys were working on the roof. Amelia enjoyed some cuddle time with her.

We also got some new furniture. Well, new to us anyway. I love CraigsList. I've bought and sold lots of things on there. Yesterday we got a new blue and white striped loveseat with a twin size hide-a-bed and a nice big blue chair and ottoman. After a good steam cleaning and restuffing the pillows, we really like it! Now we just need to find a new couch that "goes" with the loveseat and chair and we'll be set. I'm waiting patiently for the perfect deal.

Today we went to the gym, hung out at home, and then Camden and Amelia did some video performances for me to post. Camden is doing his "Duck Dodgers" dance. Duck Dodgers is some cartoon he's been watching lately. Not really sure that the dance actually has anything to do with it, but that's what he calls it.

Amelia's performance is her "ballet". Some of it she just made up and some of it (the "butterfly flaps" and "opening the storybook" are things she actually learned in ballet.

Thursday

So today we didn't do a whole lot, but I have some pictures anyway. First is Camden and Matilda playing on the floor. They were having so much fun!

Amelia wanted her picture taken, too.

A little while later Matilda pulled most of the books (the ones she could reach anyway) off the bookshelf. She was surrounded by books and sat there for the longest time looking at pictures! My little librarian. Actually, if she was a librarian she would have known how to put the books back. I guess that makes ME the librarian.

Yesterday's shenanigans by Amelia I think I put on Facebook but didn't get them on here. Her quotes of the day:

While watching this cartoon channel called Boomerang: "It's on Booberang!"
and then, "I'm the queen. And I'm in charge. Understand that!"

Ok, so it's been a week!

Oops! We've been busy, and by the time the kids are in bed I've been too tired to work on the blog. So...what's been going on for the past 7 days?

Kristen came for a short visit...she'll be back in August for a final visit before moving to Germany with the Air Force as a flight nurse for 2 years.

At the same time Kristen was here, my grandpa came to visit for a couple days as well.

If you didn't know, Matilda is a total Daddy's girl. She never gets as excited as when she sees him...

We spent a little time at the pool...Matilda enjoyed drinking the water.

And Matilda learned that she likes to try and dress herself with Amelia's clothes and then crawl around with dresses on her head running into things.

Quick and funny

I'll probably do a longer post later, but I didn't want to forget this. Amelia looked at me and said, "Mommy, you have a crack in your eye." I asked her what color it is. "Red," she said.

I must be tired and have bloodshot eyes! :-P

Banana Splits

This afternoon the kids were full of energy and destroying the house. So we went to Penguin Park for a while, but it was so darn hot we decided to come home after about 20 minutes. I stopped at Sonic to get the kids a banana split. Here are pictures to document:

Matilda's first banana split...I think she enjoyed it.

Camden is an ice cream fiend:

Amelia was just glad to be cooling off:

And I thought some of you who don't get to see the kids often might appreciate this little video of Matilda and Amelia cracking each other up (or cracking out, as Amelia always says!). I was getting Matilda ready for bed and she was laughing so hard I had to grab the camera.
